BHS Choir takes home NAMCYA Champ Trophy

The Baao High School Choir bagged the first prize in the Senior Choir Division of the National Music Competition for Young Artists held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines yesterday, November 15. I was supposed to watch it but it coincided with my comprehensive examination in Quantum Mechanics so I wasn't able to watch that historic feat for my high school alma mater. Sad! I certainly missed that surreal feeling that the choir of your alma mater bested all other choirs in the whole country.

Anyway, I rummaged over all video hosting sites in the cyberspace to have a peak of their grand performance. Thanks goodness I have found the video uploaded by a YouTube user named L1TEL1TO. The sound quality is not that nice but this video certainly answers my yearning to watch their performance. So, thank you to the uploader.

Kudos to all the members and trainors of BHS Choir!

Pacquiao wins!

Manny Pacquiao scores his 36th win by TKO in a title bout today, June 29, at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, opposite Mexican-American boxer David Diaz. Yahoo! Sports reports:

"Round 9: Diaz’s face is a mess as the round starts and Pacquiao resumes the assault. Pacquiao lands a three-punch combination to the head. Diaz throws a left and a right, which Pacquiao blocks with his gloves. Diaz simply can’t land much. Straight left by Manny snaps Diaz’s head back. Diaz’s left eye is blackening and closing quickly. Pacquiao circles and flicks a couple of jabs. Right hand inside followed by a left sends Diaz down face first. The ref doesn’t even bother to count and waves off the fight at 2:24."

It is estimated that Pacquiao's win over Diaz earned him at least $ 3M. But more than the prize, I believe what's sweeter is the fact that he is the first Asian to win four major titles in four weight classes. It can be recalled that he won the championship belts in WBC Flyweight, IBF Super Bantamweight, WBC Super Featherweight and now in WBC Lightweight.

Athough Pacquiao will not surely give us even a tiny share of his winnings, at least he inspires us to work harder so we will be the best of what we can be, and that's I think enough reason to land a spot in this blog.

Ultimately, Pacquiao deserves a commendation for sending the message to the world that although Filipinos are just third-world people, we could still be great and a force to consider too. So, just by watching him win over mighty fighters from all over the world, I already find a reason to feel proud of being a Filipino!

I am getting married (finally)...

I have often asked by other people when I will be tying the knot. This is one of the many questions which I find really difficult to answer. For one, it is difficult to be certain on issues like marriage in which existing plans change unpredictably. But this time, I can certainly answer that question with much infallibleness -- DECEMBER 29, 2007!

Yes, I am finally getting married. So mark your calendars and save the date for me.

The wedding ceremonies will take place at the St. Bartholomew The Apostle Parish Church, Baao, Camarines Sur at 10:00 A.M., while the reception will follow right away at the Villa Gaite.

Our wedding invites...

See you there, guys!

Certified Aquarist Now

I have always wanted to have an aquarium but my schedule and my living space simply do not provide me the privilege to own one.

And then opportunity came when I found an old aquarium jar at the Physics Department while I was clearing it out last week. Yesterday, I washed the jar and then bought a pair of golden fish. Voila! I already have my first aquarium.

Sadly though, I found that one of the fish was floating dead this morning. So I bought 3 fish as replacement. Now, I've got 4 in the jar! For how long will these fish last in the jar, only time will tell...

First for First

Yesterday, our Classical Mechanics class visited one of the biggest physics labs in the Philippines -- the Enchanted Kingdom! Although EK is just located couple of miles away from Manila and is very accessible, I never really got the chance to visit it and so that trip was my first visit to the park. Incidentally, I was thinking of a subject for my first blog here for weeks already. Then I just thought of making my first visit to EK as the material for my first blog! First for first huh, how about that? hehe

So, what brought graduate students to EK? Aren't we too well-informed that amusement parks practically rely on physics laws to make the amusement park experience truly amusing? Or aren't we too old (relatively though, haha) to enjoy such experience?

But what the heck! Don't we deserve some time to enjoy good things that physics brings other than the headaches that we get from studying it? Haha. Anyways, I hope I will have the time to give next time my personal assessment of the different rides available at EK. I don't have much time today since we are already preparing for our final examinations next week.

So let me just share some more of our pictures.
